Job description:

The Department of Health are seeking a motivated Clinical Nurse consultant to join their team in Neurology/Stroke located at Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Role:

To provide high level nursing support, liaison and leadership in the assessment and management of neurological patients in outpatient and ambulatory settings, particularly for neuroimmunological conditions (such as multiple sclerosis) with scope to extend to other conditions. 

You will need:

  • Demonstrated specialist clinical knowledge in defined neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, epilepsy or neuromuscular conditions, and the ability to apply this knowledge in screening, management, safety monitoring, phone advice, education and support of patients with such conditions.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication, both written and verbal, mediation and conflict resolution skills, and a proven ability to educate, influence and be credible to a range of health professionals and consumers.
  • Well-developed and strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate within an inter-disciplinary team and to consult, refer, liaise and negotiate on complex professional, clinical service and health systems issues.
  • Demonstrated high level problem solving, conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to make independent and collaborative judgments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to undertake professional development, quality improvement, audit, database entry and collation, and research activities as required, and effectively initiate and implement change in practice based on results of such activities or new information.

The Team:

You will work directly with consultant neurologists and senior registrars in outpatient clinics and within the Department of Neurology at the Royal Hobart Hospital, particularly in the neuroimmunology clinic.  The role also involves liaison with administrative and allied health staff to co-ordinate bookings and relevant outpatient therapies, such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy.  There may also be contact with staff from the University of Tasmania, particularly for patients participating in research trials.  More broadly, the Department of Neurology provides outpatient and ambulatory care for neurological patients in Tasmania, particularly those from the south of the state though also at times people with specialist conditions from the north of the state. 

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, part time, day worker position, working 32 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of approximately twelve (12) months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $111,506 to $118,336 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023.

Allowances: 

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $500 per annum
  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
