Job description:

Do you have expertise in public sector recruitment? Interested in contributing to the delivery of key strategic and project-based work including major advertising and recruitment drives. This short-term vacancy offers the opportunity to learn and upskill in a supportive and unique environment.

The Department of Justice has a number of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategies in place, and our recruitment practices aim to facilitate full participation from all population cohorts. We encourage applications from Indigenous Australians, people living with disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and faiths, mature age workers and LGBTIQA+ people.

The Department of Justice supports reasonable adjustment requests in any stage of the assessment process to remove barriers and facilitate full participation in all aspects of employment for applicants with disability. If you have individual requirements that need to be accommodated in order to participate in an interview or recruitment activity, please inform TPS Recruiting at TPSRecruiting@justice.tas.gov.au as soon as possible.

Working Environment

The Department of Justice operates from multiple sites across Tasmania. Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart, and Launceston. This position is based at Risdon Vale in the TPS Human Resources Section, located in the Training Building.

The Rison Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk). The Training Building has an attached outdoor area where we can enjoy our lunchtimes... weather permitting! We are a short drive to local shops and services, however there is no need to worry about parking when you return as there is plenty (and did we mention it’s free!?).

The TPS Human Resources Section encompasses recruiting, training, rosters, absence management and general human resources support for the TPS. We are a small team and work closely and collaboratively with the Department of Justice’s central human resources team, and other Outputs.

Details of Appointment

Fixed-term full-time day work working weekdays, 73.5 hours per fortnight from as soon as possible for a period of up to 12 months from the date of appointment or until the substantive returns, whichever is sooner.

This is a great opportunity to work strategically, gain insight into the corrections environment, and contribute to the long-term objectives of the TPS. We acknowledge that corrections is not for everyone, and hope you will consider this fixed-term vacancy an opportunity to try it out - talk to us in TPS Recruiting, we don't have all the answers but we can find them.

This role oversees all recruitment activities for the TPS including progressing immediate and emerging strategic deliverables such as:

  • Advertising campaign and assessment tools for Correctional Officer - Training intake;
  • Project-based work to support implementation of Correctional Officers Agreement 2023; and
  • Advertising campaign and recruitment drive across corrections roles.

Supported by the Administrative Support Officer (Recruitment) this work requires collaboration with TPS HR and Department HR team members, and a broad range of stakeholders.

We are a diverse and inclusive workplace and understand the importance of flexible working arrangements. In TPS HR there are a number of us that choose to work flexibly, talk to us about how this could work for you (it’s also ok if you prefer to work the traditional way, some of us do that too).

*Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and/or casual vacancies.
